Liza Pollock, L.Ac., M.Ac.OM

Liza Pollock received her Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2009 where she studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including acupuncture, herbal medicine, qigong, massage including adult and pediatric tuina, and nutrition. The program also includes in depth anatomy and physiology as well as Western medical pathology and diagnosis. She is continuing her studies of qigong with the Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School. Liza grew up in a big and loving family in Cleveland, OH. She earned her B.A. in sociology and psychology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1998, worked in social and mental health services in New York City and North Carolina, and has also studied yoga since 1998. When she became a certified Integral Yoga teacher in 2003, one of her teachers gave her the Sanskrit name Uma, which means the luminous or serene. She believes healing is a process of exploration that the individual and practitioner can both engage in together and she hopes to be a guide along that path. Natural medicine helped her transform several serious health imbalances of her own. By treating using TCM and 5-Element approaches, as well as incorporating her yoga background, she helps to bring patients into to their natural state of optimal physical, mental, and emotional health and happiness.

"Thank you for the acupuncture and massage work you did for my shoulder yesterday. I actually feel 100% better-though I still can feel some discomfort down in my elbow area.Met with my physician. She did not agree with the emergency physicians either that it was bursitis. I mentioned to her you had been working on that area and she said you made a good diagnosis!"

"Thank you for your herbal/nutritional phone consultation. I want you to know that your recommendations were beyond helpful. I am following the alkaline diet and take an acidophilus capsule and aloe juice every morning. I sip the licorice tea daily. I started feeling a difference in my stomach IMMEDIATELY and I hav'nt had any problems with it since. I cannot thank you enough. My mother thanks you as well (as she was quite worried about me). I have an appointment to get a complete physical next week but I hope that I can contact you in the future if I need to."

A Message from Alysia Anderson

From an early age, I envisioned myself getting into a profession of helping people and the world we live in.  I came across Acupuncture when I landed a job in Research at the Center for Complimentary Medicine, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, I got the opportunity to see Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in practice and on paper.  I also had the chance to experience Acupuncture sessions for stress reduction and neck pain from a motor vehicle accident. I was amazed how beneficial it was!  It was then that I decided to move on to obtain my Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

I spent a lot of my life in athletic training, knowing that I needed appropriate rest, relaxation and proper nutrition to fuel my body.  I wish I knew back then what I know now about this wonderful medicine because it certainly would have given me the extra edge!  For instance, how it aids in reducing stress and fatigue, enhances quicker healing and recovery time from injury, sickness or trauma, and how it works deep within the body for many chronic complaints.  Studying, and using this powerful medicine, as well as evaluating modern scientific research, has given me the confidence to say that western medicine is not your only option or last resort!

I see myself as a facilitator in a persons healing process. I enjoy empowering patients on their healing journey because when they leave my office it is them that will ultimately be doing the hardest work.  I send patients home with the tools necessary to help them stay focused and attuned to making the right choices in achieving their healthcare goals.  I also believe strongly that a healthy body needs a health mind, so I strive to listen to what every patient is telling me so that I can work on the deeper, emotional levels.”
